A community effort

About two dozen volunteers, some experienced cow hands and some green horns, gathered July 13 to help Woody Woodward drive 58 head of cattle from winter to summer pastures four miles away. Things were going fine until a single steer reached the road and decided to go rogue. Several headed off the road and into the woods. The rest of the herd followed at a fast clip, despite the efforts of those on hand to “steer” them onto the road. The drive had to be rescheduled to another date as volunteers on horseback worked to bring all the cattle out of the woods and back to the pasture.
