NEDERLAND - Over the month of August, dedicated community members helped to curate kindness and compassion in the Town of Nederland by organizing the Love Your Neighbor Cereal Drive, which collected over 300 pounds of breakfast cereal for local residents in need.

Coordinated for the second consecutive year by the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, this year’s cereal drive doubled the amount of donated boxes, which stacked up at sponsored collection sites, including at The Market at Nederland, Nederland Community Library, and Nederland Community Center.

Students from Chinook West High School at TEENS, Inc. also helped with the charitable program and engineered the “domino run.”

Kadian Ethier, Kai Maleville, Daniel Peterson, and TEENS, Inc. administrator Stazi Snelling got innovative with lining up each of the 311 boxes to ensure a perfect domino effect. And that effect was achieved during a special ceremony at the church on Sunday, September 7, 2025, with Peterson having the honors of tipping over the first cereal domino.

The 3,000 servings of necessary pre-noon nutrition were donated to the Nederland Food Pantry, who stated their gratitude to all those who organized the event, and all those who donated to help keep Ned fed.

"We are so grateful to our congregation and the community for their generous support of the Love Your Neighbor Cereal Drive,” said cereal drive coordinator and Nederland Community Presbyterian Church member Margie Yansura.

“With everyone's support we were able to provide a significant amount of a much needed food staple to help provide nutritious meals for members of our community. We set a goal of 200 boxes, but thanks to the widespread support, we exceeded our goal by more than half."
