Congratulations to Nederland resident Fanny Toorenburg (pictured) and her friend Alyssa Wendt on their second place finish in last weekend’s Grand Traverse ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen.

The Grand Traverse crosses forty miles of mountainous terrain between the two towns, and climbs 6,800 vertical feet.

The annual race attracts approximately 500 skiers, including former Olympians. Fanny and Alyssa completed the course (during a snowstorm) in just over ten hours. They missed first place by a mere seven minutes!

Many impressive athletes call Nederland home, Fanny richly deserves our recognition as part of Nederland’s athlete community.
