Sgt. David Salaman, Boulder County. On May 28, 2020, a man from Boulder fell while climbing in the Animal World rock formation in Boulder Canyon.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., Boulder County Communications Center received a call for a 34-year-old male that had fallen 25 - 30 feet while climbing in the 32000 Block of Boulder Canyon. The male was unconscious when rescuers arrived.
Boulder County Sheriff’s Office as well as Boulder County Emergency Services, Nederland Police Department, United States Forest Service, Nederland Fire Department, Rock Mountain Rescue (RMR), American Medical Response (AMR), Colorado Department of Transportation, and North Colorado Med Evac responded.
A technical litter evacuation was required to bring the male party to the roadway. AMR transported the male to an awaiting Med Evac air ambulance. He was flown to a Denver area hospital with serious injuries. The rescue lasted approximately two hours and required Boulder Canyon to be closed for safety during the technical rescue and helicopter landing.
This incident is documented under case number 20-2365.
