The River Arkansas has hosted music festivals as a band before. Their River on the River festival in Buena Vista will be entering its seventh year this August, with food, river rafting, and plenty of music. Now that the festival has its own legs, lead and songwriter Mike Clark, violinist Rachel Sliker, upright bassist Macon Terry, and percussionist Robin Chestnut have decided to host a second festival in their stomping ground of Jamestown.
At the beginning of this year, they decided they wanted to host a festival on the Front Range, and with the Jamestown Mercantile being one of their favorite places to play, they figured that would be the perfect place to host it and get help organizing it.
The band is planning on running the festival this year and seeing how it goes, but they’re hoping the festival will go well enough that they can keep it going for years to come. With stages in the town hall and Jamestown Park, the plan is to host BBQ plates from the Merc, as well as all-festival-long music performances from the hosting band, Paul DeHaven and his trio, Prairie Wolf, and Pioneer Mother.
Drinks will be served, and the hope is that people can enjoy live music both indoors and outdoors while also snagging a spot by the creek and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Clark hopes that the festival simply allows people to enjoy their time dancing to the music, eating some good food, and drinking refreshing beverages.
