The Nederland Lions Club sorted 1,378 pairs of used eyeglasses at its July 2 meeting, held at the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church.

Seven members spread the glasses out on tables, sorting them according to readers, prescription glasses, sunglasses and broken glasses. The reusable glasses are sent to the Colorado Lions Eyeglass Center where the prescriptions are determined and marked, and then sent on to groups who distribute them to folks in need of glasses in poverty-stricken areas around the world. The unusable glasses are sent to a recycling center. Nederland Lions Club members also volunteer at the Lions Eyeglass Center to help process them.

The glasses are collected at various locations including the Nederland Community Library, Nederland Community Center, B&F Market, Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, and Columbine Medical Center, as well as locations in Boulder, Lafayette, and Westminster.

If you’d like to have a glasses collection box at your location, contact nederlandlionsclub@gmail.com or Ann Marie Morgan at 303-653-4327.

For more information or to join the Nederland Lions Club in their philanthropic efforts contact nederlandlionsclub@gmail.com or Mary Meyer-Scully 303-518-7290. Their meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of the month at the Nederland Community Library at 4 p.m. Please let a member know if you plan to attend.
