The weekly Levit Street Market was going great guns on Sunday, June 19, with seven vendors including JKQ Barbecue, and Robby Wicks playing music, according to Central City Mayor Jeremy Fey. Then the hard rain came, and vendors scattered. Wicks stopped playing due to concerns about water and electricity.
The Levit Street Market is celebrating one year, with a farmers’ market every Sunday from June 5 to September 25. It is located near the 300 block of Gregory Street in Central City. Levit Street Market is a newer mountain market, featuring a variety of foods, arts, crafts, vendors, goods and services on offer, as well as live music and demonstrations of arts and trades.
One of the organizers of the event, Jules Korman, said they anticipate having 12 vendors next week, Sunday, June 26. If interested, vendors can apply. They are looking for makers, local artisans, and food. Anyone interested in being a vendor can contact her at julesk@levitstreetmarket.com.
Despite the rain, three vendors with good tents stuck it out. Julia Ziebro of Dory Dozens Delights said she survived the storm. She brought handmade jams, marmalades, and sauces. She has just opened a new store at 430 Lawrence Street in Central City.
She will also be at the Levit Street Market every Sunday, the Holistic Homestead Farmers Markets at the Gilpin County Community Center on August 20 and September 10, and the Gilpin County Fair on July 15, 16, and 17.
Julia said she cooks everything by hand but the honey comes from Berthoud. Her store will be open six days a week. Specialties include banana butter, pepper jam, and Hatch chili peach jam. She uses really fresh ripe fruit and real sugar, and that makes a difference. She also has fresh eggs and makes salsa when it is in season.
She started the business on April 1, 2020, and launched it on Etsy. During the first week, she made $200. Now they have steady traffic, and at the County Fair last year they sold out.
Her website is www.DoryDozensDelights.com, and she can be reached at info@dorydozens.com. The phone is 303-260-9351.
Another survivor of the storm, Wild Bergamot Soap, offers soaps and bath essentials, crafted with love in the heart of the mountains. Central City’s own Katie Burnham makes beautiful, all natural, and amazingly scented products, all at great prices.
Katie said she has been in business for one and a half years. She started watching soap making videos on YouTube, and then her husband gave her $200, and said go make soap.
Her products include a variety of soaps and lotions. She offers a Crack Stick that is a lotion for ailments including cracked fingers. Her bath bomb turns your boring bathtub into a fragrant soothing spa.
She named the company after a pink and purple wild flower, bergamot. To contact them, go to WildBergamotSoap@gmail.com. Phone: 710-347-5516, website. https://www.etsy.com/market/wild_ bergamot_ soap.
