NEDERLAND — Laurence Delaunay is a mixed-media artist, primarily focused on acrylics and ink on large canvases. Her Nederland studio, Lolo's Atelier, exhibits her work year-round, and often includes the work of other artists.
She paints Colorado wildlife and landscapes, along with more abstract pieces, which she admits are her favorite works to create. Bears, elk, bison, bulls, and hummingbirds are among her favorite animals to paint.
Delaunay says, “My work showcases the natural beauty of Colorado through my French eyes, on large canvases. I paint in my own loose/impressionist style using bold colors, paintbrush and knife strokes with acrylic paint, paste, and ink."
Alongside her own artwork, she highlights the work of one or two local artists she carefully selects to complement her collection. Her pieces include acrylic paintings on canvas, fine art reproductions on paper and canvas, and vibrant alcohol ink artwork on tile.
Monet and Gauguin inspired much of Delaunay’s work, but she also admires work by Toulouse Lautrec and contemporary abstract artists.
She portrays her vision of “this beautiful Colorado” where she lives with its amazing animals and landscapes. From brushes and palette knives to sponges, and sometimes her hands, she creates canvases full of the beauty that depicts the local Rocky Mountains.
Visitors may also find her working on commissioned pieces, or creating one-of-a-kind artwork for clients both locally and from afar.
