On Monday, June 1, Nederland High School graduate James Lammers received a surprise package in the mail. This package contained an award from the Boulder Stars of Tomorrow, a talent show competition where students from across Boulder and Broomfield County can submit classical or contemporary music pieces. The winners of both categories can then compete in a regional competition. James submitted his own original song called “Call It A Day” for the competition and won Best Contemporary Performance. James has auditioned for the show for the past four years, performing in-person his freshman and junior year and participating in an online competition his sophomore and senior years. While James qualified to participate in regionals, the event has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
