Greet and meet in Vail: One of La Nonna’s appetizers, Carpaccio di Manzo, sets the scene for an evening of delicacies. PHOTO BY OMAYRA ACEVEDO[/caption]
Three years ago, I visited Vail, Colorado, for the first time. Upon stepping onto the cobblestone streets, walking across the covered bridge, and taking in the sights and sounds I would forever only associate with this town, I was in awe.
My beloved held my hand as we made our way through a few shops and finally toward our dinner destination, La Nonna Ristorante, where I would partake in my first-ever Vail dining experience. In hindsight, I couldn’t have picked a better place.
After brief introductions between new and old friends, I got out of my seat and walked inside to tour the restaurant. Though I have never been to Italy, I closed my eyes to take in the aroma of what I only imagined was authentic Italian cuisine.
A plate of Carpaccio di Manzo went past me, helping me decide which appetizer I’d be ordering. I swore I smiled at the sight of it. Its delicate presentation convinced me it was just as much a work of art as food.
Considering I was doing and seeing things I had never before, I made this the theme for the rest of the evening. Luckily, La Nonna has so much to offer that my options seemed excitingly endless. My drink of choice was the Lavender Dream. An intricate balance of Spring44 Vodka, fresh lemon juice, and lavender simple, topped with San Pellegrino Limonata.
It was delightful and went surprisingly well with my Ravioli Tre Funghi dish. So much so that I ordered a second one for dessert, which I had the pleasure of enjoying with a Hummingbird Moth as it feasted on the petunias planted next to our table.
I get to pick and choose what I write about, and it’s more than just the food. It’s the sum of quality, ambiance, and service that makes a place worthy of a story. Yes, the food at La Nonna is incredible, and the ambiance makes the experience even better.
The icing on my Tiramisù? Being greeted on two separate occasions by the manager and chef and being asked if everything was to our satisfaction. To me, it wasn’t a mere question. It was a taste of the remarkable customer service received at La Nonna.
Vail is known for its world-renowned skiing, diverse shops, luxurious accommodations, appealing neighborhoods, and breathtaking views. I know Vail as the home of La Nonna Ristorante. Thanks in part to this magical restaurant, I will never forget my first time in Vail.
