Dana Jones said the idea for her company, JustArts, came from her ability to combine her experience in the worlds of quilting, photojournalism, and teaching. She spent years involved with a quilting project on a small island in the Philippines. Since July 7, 2015, she has been teaching and speaking about quilting across Colorado and the rest of the country, with her husband, the Reverend Joe Agne, and her two studio dogs.
Jones is the author of Pagtinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island, her book about her experience with the quilters on a 13-acre island in the central Philippines. She has had publication of her works in multiple quilt magazines, as well as other written pieces.
Jones also was a former editor of Quilters Newsletter magazine and the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Journal. Jones’s work has been displayed at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and as part of a traveling show of the American Quilt Study Group. In addition, Jones was an artist in residence at the Gilpin County Public Library.
Jones built her brand with hard work and networking and joined the Global Quilt Connection, an international group of 180 quilt teachers and speakers. ”In the quilt world, we are not competitors. Instead, we are a community of people who love to share what we enjoy.”
The quilting world for her consists of many mentors and colleagues within the quilting community that emphasizes diversity and compassion for one another and the works of others.
With her experience and open arms to the world of quilting, Jones will be teaching at a national quilting show in Daytona Beach, Florida, in February. She also offers courses in person and via Zoom, courses that are in high demand.
