At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Timberline Fire Protection District (TFPD) held their monthly board meeting. President Rick Wenzel, John Bushey, Treasurer Whitney Donoghue (remotely) and Member-At- Large Chip Smith attended the meeting. Fire Chief Paul Ondr and Administrative Chief Jennifer Hinderman also attended. Highlights included a Memorandum of Intent for a joint water cistern with Rollinsville Mini Storage, and the Chief’s Report.
New business included the renewal of an annual contract with the Adams Group LLC to perform the financial audit for TFPD. All were in favor.
The board then discussed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) with Rollinsville Mini Storage, LLP, which serves as temporary compliance for a fire plan agreement until a joint fire cistern can be installed on the property at 245 Tolland Road, Rollinsville.
Earlier this summer, Rollinsville Mini Storage applied to the County to build two additional 2400-foot storage buildings and per the fire code they have to have about 10,000 gallons of firefighting water to do so.
Ondr spoke with them about the possibility of a joint cistern with TFPD on a permanent easement on the east end of their property near one of the stations, with each party contributing $25,000.
If this 30,000-gallon joint fire cistern cannot be completed in the outlined timeline of twenty-four months, then Rollinsville Mini Storage will be required to install a private fire cistern within eighteen months.
Smith made a motion to approve the Memorandum of Intent. Wenzel asked if the money was a guarantee and Ondr cited that the funds would be submitted to TFPD within seven days of TFPD signing a purchase agreement for the fire cistern tank. All were in favor.
Next the board discussed a notice of transition from their legal firm, Collins, Cockrell and Cole, who will no longer be serving clients beginning January 1, 2022. Linda Glesne, their attorney, offered to continue representing TFPD under the new firm, Cockrel Ela Glesne Greher and Ruhland. All were in favor.
Ondr discussed old business on the Smith Hill Station, stating that there is a 3,000-gallon Golden Gate Fire Protection District water tender in the station that will remain there through the winter. It is two-wheel drive so its use is limited in the winter for anything other than training purposes.
Ondr then delivered the Chief’s Report. TFPD responded to 60 calls in October, same as in September. TFPD has created a new volunteer Captain position in their organizational chart and will be bringing four to six new volunteers in early December. Twenty-two people attended the live fire training in Boulder last Saturday.
In wildland news, Brush 56 returned late Sunday and was sent to Windy Fire in California for seven weeks.
In Administration news, TFPD was denied the Alan Green Grant requesting $3,848 but Ondr submitted a small grant request to RETAC (Regional Emergency Trauma Advisory Council) for some EMS equipment.
The Board will serve all the firefighters at the All Hands meeting, held November 19 at 6 p.m.
The board then went into Executive Session with all in favor.
The next regular board meeting for Timberline Fire Protection District will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 6 p.m. at Station 5, 14908 Highway 119, Black Hawk, CO 80422.
