I hold a bachelor’s degree in English from Colorado State University and master’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. Currently residing in Denver, I have a summer residence in Pinecliffe.

I have been a writer, newspaper reporter, and editor for more than 30 years, working for newspapers including the Valley Courier in Alamosa, Colorado, and The Mountain-Ear in Nederland. I have been with The Mountain-Ear for 12 years, this round.

I also have been a public relations and communications director for the University of Kansas, Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado.

I have written two books, From Vision to Reality: 100 Years of Private Support for The Kansas University Endowment Association, and Wisdom from the Woodshed, and have edited three others including Ghosts, Outlaws, Polygamists and DNA.

Wisdom from the Woodshed is about one man’s struggles to live homeless and then launch a new ministry in Aurora, Colorado. The book describes Eugene Cason, who was homeless from 1992 until 1998. Sometimes he slept under an office desk, in his car, or in an old rundown warehouse. In 1997 and 1998 he had nothing to eat from time to time. Throughout all of his adversities and challenges, God never left him, and now he has a ministry to share his story.

I transcribed tapes from Rev. Cason’s life and put together an outline. I met once a week with Rev. Cason and his wife Beverly to flesh out the story. Cason also took me on a tour of the sites where he had been homeless and took photographs as we went, many of which are in the book.

After about a year of working, we came up with Wisdom from the Woodshed. The book is published by the Christian Faith Publishing Company and is available in most retail stores.

I have had more than 20 poems published in newspapers, anthologies, and college magazines. I also have written for alumni magazines and commercial magazines in Topeka, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

I am married to my wife Anne, who is a massage therapist in Denver and also takes photos for The Mountain-Ear. We have five children and nine grandchildren.
