Jill Story was elected to the Central City Council by a special election on January 25, 2022. She won by two votes with the count of 54-52 over Marcia Enloe. Story stated she is elated about her victory and can’t wait to be a part of the political process.
Alderman Story is excited about tackling some issues she feels is important. Her first issue will be to put together an infrastructure package for structural engineers and building inspectors to survey the commercial buildings and residential places to ensure they are safe. Story feels this is the first step to attract new business and encourage growth. “We are building a house of cards if the buildings don’t have a good foundation to support new business.” She feels the community also needs a strong foundation in order to thrive. Story would like to see some businesses for the community and not just for tourism.
Story and her husband moved to Central City a year and a half ago after living in Boulder. She has had a variety of interesting jobs including being a stuntwoman, owning a bridal shop and running a handyman service. She is ready to devote herself to the service of Central City and would like to get even more involved in other local organizations. She has an interest in the Gilpin Arts Society, the Gilpin Historical Society and would like to start the non-profit Clara Brown Society.
Story’s term on City Council is up at the end of 2022. She will run again for a seat in the upcoming November election. She admits being on City Council is a dream come true and she is looking forward to being part of this historical town.
