Barbara Lawlor, Nederland. It was old home week on the Ned Rink Saturday afternoon. Over 200 people, former members of the Nederland Hockey Team, former Nederland High School students and friends of the Perret family put on their skates and brought their warmth and compassion to the Perret family.
Torin Perret, a hockey player and NHS alumni, glided around the ice with his friends. In the past month, it was discovered that Torin has a brain tumo,r and the community rallied to help the Perrets with medical expenses.

The benefit brought in $2,860 and another $340 was raised from the raffle for an Avalanche hockey stick signed by all the players. Steve Durkee won the treasure stick.
A finger food buffet was served all day long, with treats from Kathmandu, Ubon Thai, New Moon, The Deli, The Pioneer Inn, Salto, Wild Mountain, B & F, Stage Stop, Backcountry, Crosscut Pizzeria, Roy’s Last Shot and The Millsite Inn. Other donations came from the Business Connection, Mutual Security Mortgage, Tire reSource, Party On and TNT.
It was a beautiful day on the rink and those who attended the benefit were grateful to spend time with Torin’s family Susan, Chris, Sarina and Faeryn.

The Perrets said, “Thanks to Ned Rink volunteers and the many people that donated food and drinks to the benefit and showed up to help. It was wonderful to see so many people skating Sunday and having fun. Thank you for all the support from everyone.”
The Gilpin High School Booster Club sponsored another benefit for the Perrets on Tuesday, Jan. 26. All of the proceeds from that night’s four basketball games will go to help Torin.
