In Memory of Christine Donna Facchin

Posted

Christine Donna McEachern Facchin of Nederland passed away from gallbladder cancer in Nederland on November 5, 2018. As with the rest of her life, Christine demonstrated tremendous strength and grace throughout her diagnosis with gallbladder cancer, and the difficult battle that followed. She passed into paradise surrounded by family.

She was born to Clara Natkong in Ketchikan, Alaska, on January 1, 1957, and during her life she also lived in Norfolk, VA; Governor’s Island, NY; Washington, NJ; Gulfport, MS; and most recently before Nederland, Charleston, SC. Christine held many jobs, but primarily split her time of between volunteering and working for Virginia Social Services as a social worker for more than 20 years. Her special interests included volunteering, service and caring for others, especially children.

She demonstrated this both as a social worker for Virginia Social Services, and as a devoted mother and grandmother. She spent several years selflessly raising nieces and nephews as her own children, took an active role in her grandchildren’s lives and also helped care for her sister, Ann.
Other special interests included cooking, camping, shelling, rock hounding, fishing and everything in nature. She also loved to play bridge and have coffee dates with friends. She went on annual trips to Talladega, and her favorite place in the world was Sanibel and Captiva Islands in Florida, which she visited with her family in September 2018.

Christine is universally remembered for her dedication to family and friends, who describe her as compassionate, brave and kind -- a beautiful person inside and out. She is remembered as a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend to many.

She was formerly married to a U.S. Navy and Coast Guard officer, and two of her three sons also served in the U.S. Navy, one serving in the Marine Corps as well. She is survived by her three sons, Greg, Kevin and Keith, and their spouses; her three sisters Ann, Nina and Anita; four grandchildren Delainey, Tyler, Ethan and Noah; her niece Tonya, and her children; other nieces and nephews, and many friends.
