At approximately 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Timberline Fire Protection District (TFPD) held their monthly board meeting. President Rick Wenzel, Vice President John Bushey, Treasurer Whitney Donoghue, Member at Large Charles “Chip” Smith, and Member at Large John Carder attended the meeting as well as Fire Chief Paul Ondr and Administrative Chief Jennifer Hinderman.
Highlights included a Pension Board of Trustees Meeting, an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Nederland Fire Protection District (NFPD) and the Chief’s Report.
The board recessed and reformed as the Pension Board of Trustees to approve the minutes for December 14, 2021. Bushey moved to approve, Donoghue seconded, and all were in favor with no discussion.
The board adjourned as the Pension Board and reformed as the Board of Trustees.
Bushey moved to approve the minutes for February 8, 2021, and all were in favor. There was no public comment.
New business included an agreement with CEGR Law which outlined the scope of services and compensation. Smith moved to accept the agreement, Donoghue seconded and all were in favor.
Next the board discussed an IGA between TFPD and NFPD which outlined the automatic and mutual aid agreement. Bushey asked if these agreements ever become lopsided. Ondr responded that the agreement hopefully prevents that. Smith moved to approve the IGA, Carder seconded, and all were in favor.
The Board canceled the May 3 election since by March 1 there were not more candidates for Director than offices to be filled. There is still one vacancy. Most candidates gained threeyear terms until 2025.
Old business included an update on the Observatory. Smith moved to accept the deed and record it with the Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder. All were in favor.
Ondr delivered the Monthly Fire Chief’s Report, reporting fifty-two calls in February.
In wildland news, TFPD hosted a meeting with Missouri Lakes HOA regarding the mitigation proposal, with the next meeting to be held on March 15 at the Gilpin Rec Center. It is open to all.
The Preseason Deployment Meeting will be on April 6.
In Administration news, TFPD was awarded the Fire Fighter Safety and disease grant for $17,334 for six sets of bunker gear.
The DOLA Energy and Minerals Grant was submitted with a request for $200,000 for the Virginia Canyon Station.
Chief Ondr will be interviewing four new volunteers this week and has ten students taking Instructor 1 test this month.
There was no public comment and the meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:50 p.m.
The next regular board meeting for Timberline Fire Protection District will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 6 p.m. at Station 5, 14908 Highway 119, Black Hawk.
