Dear Editor,
The time has arrived. We knew it eventually would. The Nederland Food Pantry/Community Food Garden/ Clothing Closet needs to find a permanent home.
The old Town Shop land has been proposed. Facilities on the first floor and four one bedroom affordable housing units on the second. However, it is a neighborhood. It is zoned medium residential density. And the neighborhood is opposed to the multi-use.
To correct one of the comments made by a resident, this has nothing to do with Boulder County. The Food Pantry, etc., is a Nederland non-profit and it has to do with the Town of Nederland. I realize my thoughts on the matter hold no weight. However, I would like to make a comment and a suggestion.
1. Keep the land as solely residential and build eight - one bedroom affordable housing units.
2. Approach Eldora Ski Resort about the old Nederhaus building. It is right on the highway with plenty of parking. It has a green space lawn big enough for a year-round greenhouse. And the building can either be torn down or rehabilitated into a nice space for the Food Pantry, etc., without any neighborhood disruption(s).
