My name is Sunny Vincent. I grew up in Oregon in a small town called The Dalles. I attended the University of Oregon where I received both a Bachelor of Science in elementary education degree and a Master of Education with an emphasis in Technology and Special Education degree.
During my first year of college, I decided education was my path after a long consideration of making the change from a business major. My mom was also a teacher, and I wanted the same for myself.
What originally brought me to Gilpin was meeting my husband. He grew up in Gilpin and graduated from Gilpin County School.
I began working at Gilpin County School in 2006. Putting me at a whole 17 years of employment with Gilpin County School District (GCSD). There have been many different things I have taught here at Gilpin. Currently, I am the instructional coach, ELL coordinator, and gifted coordinator for the district. As far as teaching, I have taught everything from elementary and middle school computers, high school business literacy, elementary and middle school P.E, and I was the high school alternative education teacher. I also taught a yearbook, and a journalism class.
I became the gifted coordinator after going back to school to complete a second Master’s Degree Program in gifted education. I am the coach for the girls’ junior varsity volleyball team as well as the girls’ varsity soccer coach. I have previously coached middle school basketball, volleyball, and varsity volleyball.
What I love about Gilpin County School the most is it being a small school. I like that you get to know all the students really well and watch them grow up. I love being in the mountains and in a small community. You’re far enough away from the city, but not to the point where you can’t get to a store if needed.
I think it’s amazing that so many people stay here because it’s a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I have enjoyed watching students grow into young adults and graduate. It truly is a rewarding feeling. I love that it is a tight-knit community where everyone is always willing to help one another.
I have two children who have attended Gilpin County School since preschool. Now, both are in high school. Connor is a junior and Elise is a freshman. Their dad and I have been very pleased with their teachers and the education both have received. And, we are proud of the legacy of soon to be second generation Gilpin County High School graduates.
Things I enjoy doing outside of school include hiking, crafting projects, crocheting, exercising and spending time with my family. I am happy to be a part of such an amazing community. I am Gilpin County School!
