Do you want to help make Nederland a more amazing place to live, work, and thrive?

Consider joining one of the Town’s boards or commissions! The Town’s Advisory Boards and Commissions help the Board of Trustees guide the town into the future. Each board is comprised of passionate people that are dedicated to making a difference within the community. This community-based approach to governing is what makes Nederland such a unique and wonderful place.

The Nederland Board of Trustees (BoT) has various volunteer-staffed boards and commissions to advise them on topics of interest and to help them carry out their goals. All advisory board members are appointed by the Board of Trustees.

Trustees serve four-year terms, and are elected by the people during the Municipal Election, which takes place every two years. The Mayor serves a two-year team.

The Board of Trustees meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the Month, with Work Session Meetings on the second Tuesday of the Month. All meetings are held at 7 p.m.

The Nederland Downtown Development Authority (DDA) consists of a eight-member Board of Directors and a Board of Trustees Liaison, appointed by the Board of Trustees. Members serve for a term of four years. The DDA Board is a mix of residents, landowners and business owners from within the boundaries of the DDA and at least one must be a member of the Board of Trustees. The DDA has the authority to study, prioritize and propose development projects which must then be reviewed by the Planning Commission, PROSAB (when applicable), SAB, and approved by the Board of Trustees.

The Downtown Development Authority meets on the second Wednesday of the Month at 6 p.m.

The Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA) will be looking for members to join this June! The BZA typically meets once a quarter to review any potential zoning variance requests. If you have an interest in helping improve the town, consider applying!

The Board of Zoning Adjustments meets as needed on the second Thursday of each quarter (January, April, July, October) at 7 p.m.

The mission of the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Advisory Board (PROSAB) is to maintain the Town of Nederland and Surrounding Areas Open Space, Trails, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan in conformance with the Town vision and the direction of the Town of Nederland Board of Trustees, to work to implement the Plan through its own initiative and through cooperation with and support of community organizations in coordination with town resources, to work to see that all projects that fall under the scope of the Plan conform to it and integrate harmoniously with one another and to advise the Board of Trustees and educate the public on matters concerning the Plan and its implementation. Board members serve for a three-year-term and half of the board must live in Nederland.
