Atashnaa Medicine Shield, Community Liaison. Since the introduction of the Affordable Senior & Workforce Housing Initiative to the Board of Trustees in 2013 by Atashnaa Medicine Shield, two goals have been accomplished as we close out 2014:
The Town of Nederland and Boulder County Housing joined together in a collaborative partnership to move the Housing Initiative forward; and a Housing Needs Assessment was jointly funded and completed by the Town and Boulder County Housing
Moving forward into 2015, the Housing Task Force, joining together with the Nederland Human Services Task Force, united under the umbrella of the Intermountain Alliance (IMA): Atashnaa Medicine Shield has stepped down, and the Housing Initiative is now represented by Nederland Town Administrator, Alisha Reis.
The 2015 goal of the Housing Initiative will be to implement the approved Town rental housing licensing and inspections process; and identify, and develop public-private funding partnerships for the purchase, and development of affordable senior and workforce housing. Currently, http://nederlandco.org/government/municipal-code, Sec. 6-91 to 6-98 is under review by Town staff working with the Planning Commission to update it in conformance with the Envision 2020 goals.
Two private housing development proposals were brought before the Town Planning Commission and BOT in 2014.
The Grahn project: single and duplex housing between E. 2nd and E. 3rd – the trailer court. With the installation of new utility taps, the property will now be available for sale for the construction of housing.
The Evans project: affordable mixed housing rentals located within a 17-acre parcel in the southeast area of Arapaho Ranch on Eldora Road in unincorporated Boulder County. As required by the County-Town IGA (intergovernmental agreement) for annexation, the Evans project is currently in review with the county for annexation.
On February 10 at 2 p.m. at the old County courthouse located on Pearl Street Mall, the County Commissioners will either approve the IGA amendment to allow for the annexation, or deny it. If it is approved, it then goes back to the BOT for consideration of the annexation proposal, and setting for special election. If the Commissioners deny the IGA amendment, then the annexation request dies.
