Dear Editor,
Sandy Hollingsworth has announced her candidacy for Gilpin County Commissioner District 3. Sandy has lived in Colorado for 37 years, 22 of them in Gilpin County with her husband Larry. She grew up in a family active in public service and earned a Social Work degree from University of Iowa. Sandy worked as a caseworker with people from diverse backgrounds, then for Boulder Housing and Human Services for 25 years including Acting Manager of Senior Services. She gained experience with policymaking, budget management, employee engagement, strategic planning and program development.
After moving to Gilpin County, Sandy became involved in the community as a Greater Rollinsville Community Association officer, forest stewardship groups volunteer, CSU Extension Master Gardener and the first Extension Advisory Committee. She serves on the Gilpin County Senior Living Board, Access to Healthcare Coalition, High Country Auxiliary and volunteers for Gilpin County and Nederland Food Banks, Peak to Peak Rotary, Mountain Mask Project, and in the community during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Her priorities will include community and economic recovery, diverse revenue then fiscal sustainability; listening to people and what matters most for their wellbeing, emergency preparedness, forest and land stewardship, historic preservation, and thoughtful growth in our rural mountain county including the pressures on land, water and neighbors.
Sandy was selected at the Democratic County Assembly to be the District 3 candidate on the June 30 Primary ballot.
Sandy Hollingsworth
