Holiday hopes take flight in letters to Santa

Posted

Dear Santa,

This year for Christmas may you please bring me a chimney? I miss a wood fire up here in the mountains. If it’s not too much trouble; they go best with snow. And since the reindeer will have their soft white landing on my rooftop, then, and you a chimney to come down in, I’d love to have the stocking filled with lottery tickets. Winners would be great.

I’ll fill some lists here in town so that you don’t have to overload your sleigh. I’ll put out my green and white stocking from my landlord. I miss my Norfolk pine that I used to decorate for the season, but the space it was in makes a wonderful home art studio, which reminds me:  I already got the winning ticket with living where I am, where I feel safe and inspired.

Even though I won’t have that tree to put presents under, I thank the stars already hung in the sky for my community. And since you don’t need to fill my stocking after all, just the snow will do. If you set it on the wind from there, it’ll be sure to find me here.

I’m sure that others are hoping for the same, so if a quiet few days of calm fat flakes are possible, you would be filling quite some wishes. Our town’s great at clearing the roads, and since I’m working at home I’ll pass on snow tires for more of that Holiday Cheer~ it certainly got me through a rough year.

As always,

Dear Santa,

For Christmas could you please get me a sparkly pink unicorn stuffy? I would also like a big, big, big bag of my favorite candy—Tootsie Rolls and Milky Ways.

Please, I would appreciate these things and have a safe trip to Colorado!

Give Rudolf a carrot for me.

Bye Santa!

From a Gilpin kid
