A heartwarming event, “Holiday in the Hills,” unfolded on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Black Hawk, hosted by Mountain Poppy Boutique and Wine Bar. Located at 317 Gregory Street, owner Leza Spencer, welcomed the community to the shop’s third annual celebration of the season.
This festive occasion, known as “Christmas on Gregory Street,” saw the jovial arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, who added an extra dash of magic to the event. Mountain Poppy Boutique, with its two floors brimming with eclectic goods and delightful gifts, provided the perfect setting for an afternoon of holiday merriment.
Leza Spencer expressed her joy in hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus for the second time, stating, “I opened right before Christmas in 2021, so this is my second full year but my third Christmas open.”
The event was a delightful experience for the youngsters who participated in holiday crafts, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the legendary Santa. Hot spiced wine and sweets added to the warm atmosphere, making it a truly festive affair.
Goodie bags, door prizes, cookie decorating, and complimentary gift wrapping were among the many offerings that made “Holiday in the Hills” a standout event. Families reveled in the holiday spirit, capturing memories as Santa and Mrs. Claus made their grand entrance, spreading cheer with hearty “Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!” greetings.
The genuine warmth of Santa and Mrs. Claus captivated the children, some of whom couldn’t resist reaching out to touch Santa’s real beard. Well-behaved children sat in Santa’s lap, sharing their Christmas wishes, while parents beamed with pride, capturing the precious moments through photographs.
Even the youngest attendees weren’t left out, as Mrs. Claus made a special visit to an infant in a stroller, spreading smiles all around. Mrs. Claus rang the bells on her dress to entertain the baby who looked on with wonder. Santa played peek-a-boo with a bashful toddler. Families gathered to share the joy, creating memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
As Santa’s bells faded into the distance, the echoes of laughter and holiday cheer lingered at Mountain Poppy Boutique.
For those planning to visit, free parking is available at the St. Charles Parking Garage and Carriage House, conveniently located at 260 Gregory Street in Black Hawk.
“Christmas on Gregory Street” truly brought the spirit of the season to life, fostering a sense of community and joy that will resonate throughout the hills this holiday season.
