Beginning Monday, August 2, Roosevelt National Forest’s Boulder Ranger District is partnering with HistoriCorps to rehabilitate the Hessie Cabin as part of the Forest Service commitment to preserving history. Located at the Hessie Trailhead west of Nederland, the Hessie Cabin exemplifies the pioneer log style.
Volunteers will be on site dismantling the cabin and reconstructing it, replacing logs that have deteriorated. Work will take place Monday through Friday, every week until August 28, 2021, during which time visitors are asked to avoid the construction area to allow volunteers to safely work. A small number of parking spots will be closed for volunteer use.
Those interested in volunteering for this project can find applications on the Historicorps website https:// historicorps.org/ hessie- cabinco 2021/.
