Grill & Brew at Oskar Blues

Omayra Acevedo, Lyons. Sometimes I hear something – it can be a word, a phrase, a name or a place – and I can’t help but let memories take over. I don’t remember the exact date I first drove through Lyons, Colorado, but I do recall two things: it was 2007 and the name “Oskar Blues.“ It was the second time I had seen a banner for the restaurant. I had never been, so I wasn’t sure what to think of it…yet.

Fast forward to a few months later, I finally made it to dinner at Oskar Blues. I was with two friends and we all decided that we would order something different and share it all. It was a good idea. Between the appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, burgers, “sammies (sandwiches),” pizza and drink options, it was a bit challenging to decide what to get.

So, yes, the food was great, the beer was tasty and the atmosphere only added to the wonderful experience I had at Oskar Blues in Lyons. It was also the things I learned about Oskar Blues, the history and its connection to the community. Curious? Good! Go and find out for yourself. I know it’s a tease, but I don’t wish to spoil everything for you.

It was the eighth of March 2021 when I found myself at Oskar Blues again. I wouldn’t say I had forgotten my experience there, but almost. Luckily, I was in Lyons conducting an interview for one of my columns and I had time to spare. Naturally, I had lunch at the place where my appreciation for Lyons began. If you eat fish, I highly recommend the salmon. If not, I haven’t heard any complaints about anything on their menu.

What were the words I heard that made me think of Oskar Blues? It, what I could only ascertain, was a wife and husband discussing where they would go the next day, while on holiday in Colorado. The words were: mountains, small, town, food and beer. To me, those words summed up Oskar Blues.
