Dear Nederland Community,
As I wrap up my year as the Principal here at Nederland Middle-Senior High School, I am left with many fond memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. This small school environment allowed me to experience traditions that can’t be duplicated in large schools like our Homecoming Parade through town in early October with the leaves changing and the Nederland Ski Day in March! We had our first Homecoming dance in two years and I watched students dance like there was not going to be a tomorrow!
Winter came with a spike in COVID cases and I witnessed how the staff at Nederland took care of one another and covered classes when we were short on subs, or more often than not, we didn’t even have subs. The staff rallied and did their absolute best to maintain focus on our student’s education.
I watched students participate in sports with parents and fans in attendance! I listened to many music performances from our fine arts department and also enjoyed one of the best Spring Musical performances I have ever seen in Guys and Dolls. The amazing talent at such a small school is truly inspiring!
Finally, I was able to experience this tight knit community that supports this school with passion and fidelity. Your support and guidance throughout this year has been heartwarming to say the least.
As I said to the Graduating Class of 2022, It’s been said that the two hardest things to say in life are “Hello” for the first time and “Goodbye” for the last time. It has been almost one year to this day when I said “Hello” to this beautiful Nederland community for the first time, and it is almost time for me to say “Goodbye.” However, I don’t feel like this goodbye will be the last time as I am certain that my wife, and some of my family, will venture up the canyon to Nederland from time to time to enjoy all this fantastic town has to offer!
This has been a tremendous year and I have been truly honored to have been your principal here at Nederland Middle- Senior High School! I can’t thank you enough for all of your kindness you have shown this “flatlander!” This school and community will be in my heart forever!
Thank you all so much!
With much gratitude and respect,
Mark Sibley
Extremely Proud Principal,
