Dear Editor,
During this time where our democracy is in peril and millions of people are literally taking to the streets to save it, our beloved Governor Polis is taking life easy with his “hands-off” approach to the most lawless and violent of our government agencies. As a prior constituent of our take-a-do-nothing-approach to the violence being imposed on anyone “of color” or a protestor seeking to protect their vulnerable neighbors, Polis claims that what Colorado has on the books is “good enough” to protect people from ongoing constitutional and human rights violations by federal agents.
How much less could Polis do to let us know he’s not the democrat we voted for, but taking the disingenuine do-nothing approach, and hoping, instead, that the federal government will put its own guardrails on ICE?
While governors in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, California and other states are enacting legislation to protect their residents from abuses and intimidation so they may attend school, work, medical appointments and generally live their rightful lives, Polis says he’s not on board, and that the existing laws are good enough to protect us from warrantless searches a la the assault on Minnesota.
Notably, a mere 37% of the immigrants detained by ICE had any semblance of a criminal background. Further, a notable majority is against Polis in his do-nothing approach to do all he can to ensure the safety of Coloradans.
Polis needs to step down now and let a real democrat—not a quietly misleading centrist—take the lead.
Shame on you, Governor Polis. Now is the time to man up, not shut up.
