Dear Editor,
I canvassed to get Governor Polis on the ballot. He ran as a Democrat; at that time, I believed in his candidacy.
I no longer feel that way. His more recent decisions on vetoing the Pro-Labor Peace Act, a pro-labor bill (https://coloradosun.com/2025/05/16/jared-polis-vetoes-labor-peace-act-bill/) would have made life easier for hospitality workers to earn a fair wage. His decision to sign into law HB-1208 (https://www.denverpost.com/2025/06/05/colorado-tipped-minimum-wage-law-denver-restaurants/) cuts the income of Colorado’s restaurant workers.
Even more impactfully, upon information and belief, he has now directed the Colorado Department of Labor to cooperate with ICE in illegal arrests and deportations (https://coloradosun.com/2025/06/05/ice-subpoena-colorado-jared-polis/), damaging the very fabric of our country.
Unless you’ve been living on the shores of the Seychelles, you’re all too aware of the ongoing battle for our sacred democracy. What Coloradoans thought they elected, and what they expected to have, was a strong Democratic governor who would advocate for and protect the working class in our state and the legal rights of due process as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
As the Governor is also well aware, supporting an anti-vaxxer who will be taking away our vaccines including for Covid-19, flu, measles, and whooping cough not only gravely threatens and endangers the health of all of our people, but contributes to the ongoing sentiment that certain people in positions of power at this time would be delighted if we all just shut up and died.
In the words of Gloria Steinem, “self-esteem is the basis of any real democracy.” I suggest Governor Polis get some, or get out of office.
Sincerely,
Denise Boehler
