GOLDEN GATE CANYON - The Golden Gate Canyon Grange hosted its Annual Arts and Crafts show on Saturday, October 18, 2025. The event included 26 vendors who filled the Grange Hall.

Organizers Deb Curlee and Thirza Kennedy said they have three new vendors this year. Curlee has been organizing the event for eight years.

Coordinated by Jane Ruefch, the menu included spinach quiche, grilled cheese sandwiches, chili, and pumpkin spice cupcakes.

Mary Ramstetter had a table near the kitchen where she offered her history books. She said they would like to have a class at the Grange showing movies about the history of the area each month.

The books for sale were John Gregory Country by Charles and Mary Ramstetter, and her three books, Over the Mountains of the Moon, Down the Valley of the Shadow. and Ride, Boldly Ride.

These titles quote the Edgar Allen Poe poem that reads “ ‘Over the mountains of the moon, Down the Valley of the Shadow, Ride Boldly Ride,’ the Shade replied, ‘If you seek for Eldorado.’ ”

Matt Miller had tables full of his wooden toys and carved items including toasters, candle sticks, trains, and an aircraft carrier with a flock of furry animals. He had two portraits of Jesus made of cut wood from pieces you reassemble to make the picture.

Matt’s sister, Tina Miller, was selling stuffed dragons in a variety of colors. She has been making them since the 1990s.

Rhonda Marr from Coal Creek Canyon displayed her homemade candles in jars and cans, and fire starters. She has been making them for six years.

Val and Ernie Bagwell brought about 50 of the quilts she has been making for 30 years. Jason Flesher, who has a store in Black Hawk, brought his LitWood creations of burned wooden items. He has been burning wood for eight years and has had his store for two years. He shares his store with 30 artisans.

Kathleen Hancock brought her homemade jewelry, as well as original greeting cards and prints for the White Cat Silver Company. She said this has been a good market.

Barbara Bliss displayed T-shirts, mugs, and photos. Joyce Atkins brought leather bags, a hip bag, and wallets. Her husband, Mark Atkins, brought his metal works.

With a big sign saying “Apothecary,” Claire Faulkner showed scented candles with cards explaining their benefits. She has bees and a garden and has been working on this for 20 years. This is the first time she has tried to sell her products.

Alicia Welch with Fire Crafted brought products repurposed from fire hoses and bunker gear. She is in her second year at the craft show, and has heat pads, luggage tags, key chains, coasters, Koozies, and dog tags.
