Golden Gate Grange hosts Crafts Fair

GOLDEN GATE CANYON - The Golden Gate Canyon Grange hosted its annual Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grange, 25231 Golden Gate Canyon Road. The Grange was packed with tables for 25 vendors in two rooms and a crowd of shoppers.

 The Fair’s crafts also included a range of food offerings. Grange Secretary Jane Ruesch and President Terri Costeldia were the primary chefs, aided by a crew of the Hernandez girls, Alisha, Samantha, Yosihi and Gisselle. Menu items included chili, quiche lorraine and spinach quiche, side salad, grilled cheese sandwich, grilled cheese with ham and tomato, and sodas.

 Thirza Kennedy and Golden Gate Fire District President Deb Curlee organized the event. Kennedy said they set the date and designed the flyers for vendors two months ahead of time, and organized the tables. She said the Fair is always held at this time of the year, either before or after Halloween.

 Kennedy also had a craft booth. She said she “finds things and then reuses them.” Her creations included a Texas flag on a repainted board, and an old trophy.

 Other vendors included Matt Miller, who has been a woodworker for 40 years. His display included a wide variety of toys such as cars, airplanes, and air craft carriers, and novelties like toasters and note holders. Miller said he makes multiples at a time, and it can take half and hour to a week to make each construction.

 Rhonda Cook from Coal Creek Canyon brought candles she designs and creates. Paul Prue brought handmade metal art, including farm implements and clocks made from a rotary hose.

Effie Bachman, who had been a firefighter for 10 years, brought her knitted stocking caps. Joann Cole from Gold Hill brought hand-knitted, fleece-lined stocking caps and Gold Hill Goo, which is an all-purpose hand salve.
