Memorial Day weekend came quickly as holidaymakers entered our campgrounds and parks, reminding us the busy season is upon us. Roads became more crowded and lines were a lot longer. The Gold Hill Inn’s Memorial Day Mountain Festival & Barbeque was no exception.
Hundreds gathered from 12 to 5 p.m., on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Gold Hill Inn Beer Garden in honor of the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, with food, drinks, music, and merriment.
The entrance to the festivities was long. The food and drink lines were not any smaller. The chatter and joy of a beautiful day in Gold Hill filled the air with that quintessential small mountain town charm.
Tennessean Phoebe Hunt was the first to take the stage, along with her pup Ruthie. With fiddle in hand and a voice calming yet powerful, Hunt got the crowd moving and hungry for more. Her heartwarming stories were a compliment to the songs that followed.
If you missed Hunt during this event, she’s spending the summer in Colorado performing at various festivals. The sun continued to beam, clouds gently rolled in, and the excitement from the spectators never ceased.
Rolling Harvest paid tribute to Bob Dylan and Neil Young with a Colorado twist, inspiring the audience to sway, clap, and smile from ear to ear. Headliner, Gasoline Lollipops (Gas Pops) entertained to the end. With their bends and blends of several music genres, there were ample reasons to fall in love with the band.
Between the smoked salmon, apple cider brisket, refreshing beverages, and musical stylings of three great performances, the inn, much like its history, made an unforgettable impression on its guests and entertainers alike.
Cheers to the Gold Hill Inn’s owners, managers, staff, and entertainers for hosting an incredible event. It is sure to be remembered as part of the inn’s history and dynamic role in the community.
