Barbara Lawlor, Nederland. For the past three weeks, a group of school-spirit driven middle-schoolers have joined under the guidance of coaches Megan McEachran and Nicole Alvarez, both teachers at Nederland Middle Senior High School, to form a cheerleading team.
Their debut performance took place at the school Harvest Feast put on by the Middle School last Friday, an annual tradition that feeds about 400 people, including students, teachers and senior citizens from the community.
The girls were precise in their movements and enthusiastic in their cheers and received a huge round of applause for their much appreciated efforts. The coaches say they want to keep the team viable and perhaps they will grow into a high school team, which has been much missed in recent years.
