Pete Morgan, Gilpin County. Gilpin County Youth Wrestling had another good outing against very tough competition on Saturday at Fort Lupton High School. It was Gilpin's first ever visit to Fort Lupton which is the birth place of the Metro Junior Wrestling League and the epicenter of wrestling in the state of Colorado. Some of the competition took place in their massive wrestling room which has an entire wall listing their seemingly endless number of State Champions and top six state finalists. Truly, it was an honor to be in the presence of greatness, a model for what we aspire to one day be as a program.

Ben Gebhart and Kamron Brewer both pinned their ways to first place in a truly dominant fashion. William Siegrist continued to have success on Saturday and had multiple pins en route to second place in a large bracket. Davyn Meade also continued to demonstrate how much he has improved from a year ago by having multiple pins and finishing 3rd in a really tough bracket.

The match of the day hands down belonged to Dusty LeBeau, down 11-5 with less than a minute left, through true determination and toughness secured a last second pin for a huge victory against a far more experienced and polished wrestler from Valley (last years 3a State Champions). Also of note, Mason Sechler an 8 year old wrestling 10 year olds had several great matches, Elijah Warner got another pin in only his second tournament ever, our kids are building experience from the ground up against the best.

Next Sunday, some of our wrestlers will be attending the annual Colorado Wrestling Hall of Fame Tournament at Broomfield High School.
