Emily Pleier, Gilpin County. Saturday, December 15, 2018 was huge for the Gilpin wrestlers. Last weekend’s tournament at Sheridan High School had 16 other schools, some with high levels of competition, but the boys still walked away with many victories.
Kamron Brewer started off the day with an easy win against Conor Eldridge from James Irwin High School. Soon after, he won two more matches against Matthew Harangozo from Manitou Springs and Colin King from Salida High School. Kamron started off the day in a new weight class of 120 lbs. and ended up walking away with 3 victories, the freshman continues to bring in wins for the team.
Finally, Mike Wenholz finished off the day placing third in his weight class of 132 lbs. With matches against Kross Polloccia from Evergreen High School, Adam Blackstock from Golden High School and Caden Cardie from Faith Christian High School, the junior continues to show promise for a spectacular wrestling future.
Overall, the wins this tournament show promise for future victories. The boys are back in practice, getting ready for their next tournament after winter break on January 5, 2019 in Bennett Colorado.
