Skylar Webb, Gilpin County. The Gilpin County Eagles started practice on March 8th, eager to finally begin their season. They played with passion and energy until their last game of the season which was April 23rd for the varsity, junior varsity, and C teams.
Overall, the varsity won 8-6 of their total games. Their first game against Front Range Christian they won 3-0. They played Highland next and lost 0-3, but made up for it by winning their next game against Platte Canyon 3-0. They played Union Colony Prep, Dawson school, and Dayspring Christian Academy next, losing 1-3, 0-3, and 0-3. On April 13th, we played Nederland and won 3-0, then on April 14th varsity won against Longmont Christian 3-0. April 16th and 17th they lost to Belleview Christian 0-3, and won against Twin Peaks Charter Academy 3-0. They then played Clear Creek and won 3-1, then lost to Denver Christian 0-3, and won 3-2 against Lyons. Varsity won their final game, Friday, April 23rd, against Heritage Christian 3-1, and C team won 2-1. Junior varsity played hard but lost 1-2.
Our one senior playing this year, Jasmine Crook-Arends, gave it her all this year. She had a total of 89 kills, 232 digs, and 12 aces.
Despite the delayed and shortened season because of Covid-19, the Gilpin Eagles played and practiced with intensity. They gave it their all by digging balls, hitting hard, and striving to get better. The coaches, Alexis Donaldson and Christopher Rouse, pushed everyone and made this season a great one.
Great job this season ladies, I look forward to next year!
