It wasn't a very exciting game, but that was a good thing. The Gilpin High School fans felt the joy of watching their Eagle football team squash the Rangely Panthers, 52-0 as the clock continued to run during the second half.

The Eagles now have a 5-3 overall record and a 3-1 league record with their only loss being to Soroco in overtime. The Eagles play this Saturday at home against West Grand for the league title. If they win the game, they win the league and will be guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs. GHS athletic director Jeff Schuessler says, "There is an outside chance of hosting a state playoff game on November 5th. If we lose, we will finish third behind West Grand, who would be first with Soroco second, and that will almost certainly end our season."

It was a Gilpin game from the very beginning. A couple of minutes into the game, Matt Immordino ran a touchdown and Eryk Lorenz made the rushing conversion and shot hen Josh Trujillo scored and Austin Boulter made the conversion to bring the score to 16-0 with much of the first quarter to go.

With four minutes left, Immordino made a 55 yard rushing touchdown, but no conversion, and the score was 22-0. A Panther fumble was recovered by Gilpin on the Rangely 30-yard line. Alex Wilhem received Jack Ball's pass for a TD and Boulter ran the ball in for the conversion. At the end of the first quarter, Gilpin reigned 30-0.

A second quarter pass to Angel Gomez added six points to the Eagle's mounting score and Boulter made the conversion and it was a 38-0 game.

Another Panther fumble was recovered by the Eagles and Matt Immordino made that work with a run into the end zone and Boulter picked up the two-point conversion. The score at halftime was 46-0 and the clock was running, making for a fast second half. Jack Ball ran 55 yards for a touchdown to bring the score to 52-0 and the clock wound down.

Josh Trujillo was named the Defensive Player of the Game and Matt Immordino was named the Offensive Player of the Game.
