Jacqueline Hart Gibson, Black Hawk. Gilpin’s state of the art new field seems to be paying off in spring sports this year. The 2019 varsity girls’ track and field team broke three school records, while the varsity boys broke four. “We have really enjoyed our new track, and we want to thank the community for such a wonderful facility to practice in.” reported Coach Ball, last Friday.

This year’s varsity girls scored records in the 800m and 100m races, as well as in the high jump. The MS girls’ track team won the Frontier League team title.
Gilpin boys’ track took over records for the 100m and 200m races, the 300m hurdles, the triple jump and the long jump. Sophomore Stephen King, who qualified for state championships, placed second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.49. The boys’ varsity team placed 27th of 65 teams at the 2019 CHSSA Class 2A State Championships.

The varsity baseball team won three of nine games this season, beating Lyons twice. In a close game against Denver Academy, Gilpin was ultimately victorious with a score of 5-4.

All of the Gilpin athletes worked hard in practices, sometimes through freak late season snowstorms, and traveled long distances to compete.
Enjoy your summer!
