Gilpin County School seniors participated in the Senior Scholarship Banquet on May 17, 2023, and celebrated scholarships and a capping ceremony. Dinner began at 6 p.m. with barbecue meats, potato salad, coleslaw and salad in the gymnasium.
The awards ceremony took place in the auditorium. School Counselor Kim Cobb presented our class of 2023. She said Principal Alexis Donaldson has a daughter who is graduating and could not be here tonight. She thanked our families and friends, teachers and staff members and the Booster Club for the delicious meal.
Cobb and teacher Sunshine Vincent introduced the honor roll recipients.
For the Eagle Honor Roll, students with a grade-point average of 3.0 to 3.49 were:

Jeff Schuessler introduced the Shelby Allen Memorial Scholarship, which went to Abby Smith for $500.
Mary McGhee, treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, awarded a scholarship to Sara Lovett. She said the DAR was founded in 1890 and has 180,000 current members. They were established by an act of congress. It is not easy to be awarded this scholarship and requires a 550-word essay. Sarah Lovett received the $600 scholarship.
The City of Black Hawk gave all seniors 8,8000.
The Central City Promise Program, for residents of Central City, awarded a scholarship to Sarah Lovett for $5,000 for four years totaling $20,000.
Ryan and Hannah Raynes presented the theater scholarship, and they had one senior with three years. He was on stage twice but has been repairing and programming since the sixth grade and has been a great leader. Zach Gebhart received the Gilpin County Theatre Scholarship.
Suzanne Murphy presented the Gilpin Booster Club Scholarships. They presented six scholarships. Award winners were:
Abigail Smith: Academic Scholarship. $500
Alison Antill: Athletic Scholarship $500
Sarah Lovett: Athletic Scholarship $500
Skyley Ramsey: Athletic Scholarship $500
Trey Lindberg: Athletic Scholarship $500
Zach Gebhart: Arts Scholarship. $500
John Scarffe with The Mountain-Ear presented a check for $1,000 to Aucklynn Sacco for $1,000. The Barbara Lawlor Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2018. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to individuals that are enrolled in courses in community college, a college or university.
Barbara Thielmann presented the Peak to Peak Rotary Scholarships to Abigail Smith for $1,000 and to Sarah Lovett for $1,000.
The Lady Elks of Central City Scholarship went to Sarah Lovett because she pushed herself to excel in school.
Thielemann said she was an elementary teacher for 36 years. The Theilemanm family Teacher scholarship goes to Alison Antill. $1,000, and Kayla Marr for $1,000.
Sarah Swanson with the Gilpin County Schools Education Foundation said they have given out $85,000 in scholarships. They host an annual scholarship fundraising dinner for the scholarship funds. Requirements include an essay about the person who impacted you the most. They received 11 Applicants. Recipients are:
$750 for Alison Antill, Kayla Marr, and Trey Lindberg;
$1,000 for Abigail Smith
$1,500, Sara Lovet and the Ramseys
$2,000 Zach Gebhart
$2,000 Aucklynn Sacco
Kevin Armstrong, president of the Alan Green Foundation, said the Foundation has provided more than $1 million in scholarships. The Alan Green Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 by friends and family of Alan Green. Kenneth and Lela Green. Alan and Judy Green were lost in a commercial plane crash. The AGMF gives annual grants to local groups, schools, and causes that benefit Gilpin County residents. AGMF also awards scholarships for graduating high school seniors and continuing college. 2023 recipients were:

The IZ Bar Leadership Award was presented to Zach Gebhart for $15,000 a year for $60,000.
Following the scholarship awards, Vincent and Cobb conducted a capping Ceremony for all the seniors. Each senior came on stage with a person they chose to put on their graduation cap.

Lucion Amaya-Beard Scholarships: City of Black Hawk $8,800. Lucion will be attending Denver Metro University and plans to study sports management and would like to try and play basketball. After completing his studies, he would like to attend WyoTech in the auto-body program.

Alison will be attending Red Rocks Community College to pursue her degree in teaching.

Bailey received the Western University Exchange Scholarship to attend Northern Arizona University where she will major in nursing.
Patrik Bagwell Scholarship:
City of Black Hawk $8,800
Patrik plans on taking a gap year to work and continue to explore his options. He then plans on attending college.
Kellen Brinkhoff Scholarship:
City of Black Hawk $8,800
Kellen will be attending Real Estate school to become a Realtor.
Bryan Deckett Scholarship:
City of Black Hawk $8,800
Bryan plans to take a gap year then attend school to earn a degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
Tommie DiMauro Scholarship:

Tommie plans to take a gap year and then attend school to pursue training as an EMT.
Aiden Farrell Scholarship:

Aiden plans to continue in the workforce and pursue his interest in the automotive industry.

Camryn plans on taking a gap year and is considering pursuing an aviation program.

Jamison earned his PCAT Core and Osha 10 certificates at Warren Tech. He and his team took 1st place in the state Skills USA competition for two years in a row and they will be going to Georgia in July to compete in the national competition. Jamison has been offered an apprenticeship in the building trades industry.
