Lucion Amaya-Church has been attending Gilpin County School since the seventh grade. Some of his fondest memories from middle school are “getting ready for football practice, listening to music, and messing around with all my friends in the locker room. But the bus rides to games were the best. We all would have so much fun getting ready to play.”
In the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades, Lucion participated in football and basketball. In the 10th and eleventh grades, he joined track, and in the tenth and twelfth grades, he became part of the baseball team.
Lucion has been working at the Century Casino as a waiter at the Mid City Grill. Lucion shares, “I’m passionate about succeeding in everything I do.” What he has loved most about high school are the connections he’s made with his friends.
Lucion confesses, “Gilpin is the only school that has fit my needs and liking.” It’s what has kept him attending Gilpin. His favorite class was geometry with Mrs. Blake, one of his favorite teachers, aside from Coach Chamberlain.
Another student who has made life better during his time at school is his sister, Aaliyah Amaya-Beard. Advice Lucion would like to leave future students of Gilpin is “Don’t take time for granted. It’s all over so quickly.”
After graduation, Lucion is planning to attend the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU), followed by Wyotech after graduating from MSU. He will miss all the people he has come to love over the years.
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, Lucion!
