Students of the Gilpin County RE-1 School District from the sixth to the 11th grade received Academic Achievement Awards during a banquet and awards presentation at the school on May 18, 2022.

The event started with a dinner of mostaccioli, meat balls, red sauce or white sauce with or without chicken, salad and cheesecake. Guests went to the gymnasium, where tables were set with black paper and flower arrangements. The Gilpin County Schools Booster Club hosted the banquet.

Following dinner, the awards presentation took place in the auditorium. Secondary Principal Alexis Donaldson welcomed everyone to the ceremony. She recognized the Booster Club members who have been at the school for seven out of the last 10 days working at graduation and other events.

She asked students to pick up their artwork on tables in the hallway. Some of them may be more than three years old. Art Director Curtis Halsted said he didn’t give students their artwork back during COVID-19.

Counselor Kim Cobb introduced two special awards. The School of Mines Medal of Achievement in Math and Science went to Zach Gebhart for $1,000, and the CU Boulder Outstanding Junior Award went to Sarah Lovett for $1,000 for four years.

Staff members Darren Newberg and Anita Myers presented the sixth- grade class awards and said it has been a fabulous class to work with. They presented about 15 awards for achievements in math, social studies, science and language arts.

Staff members Heather Fuller and Victoria Stephens presented the 7th grade awards to about 15 students, and Cynthia Sliker and Heather Newman presented the eighth grade awards and said the class has been wonderful to work with and presented about 21 awards.
