The Gilpin Recreation Center was full of kids and their parents on April 9 when they hosted an Easter egg hunt. This is an event the rec center has hosted for several years although the last two years it could not take place because of Covid. This year it came back with more energy and participation than ever before.
First the children went to different rooms depending on their age and hunted for eggs. An organized race was on to grab those brightly colored eggs. There were also games and a bouncy castle for kids to enjoy in the gymnasium.
While the human sized woodland creature that shows up this time of year, aka the Easter Bunny, freightened a few of the local children, most of them were thrilled to see the cute bunny. They felt her soft fur and loved looking at her big eyes. Many even had a photo taken with the smiling tutu wearing rabbit.
The highlight of the event was searching for Easter eggs in the swimming pool. Both pools at the rec center were used for the egg hunting eggtravaganza. Splish, splash, splosh! When the whistle blew there was a burst of water and energy as the kids splashed into the pool to find those colorful plastic eggs. The kids, with parents helping, scoured the bottom of the pool until no more eggs could be found.
