The Gilpin County Public Library is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive a $470 grant from the Alan Green Memorial Foundation. These funds will be used to add two microscope kits to its Library of Things. The Library of Things is a unique collection that includes other items such as snowshoes, telescopes, and sewing machines. Everything in the Library of Things is available for anyone with a Gilpin County Public Library card to check out. A digital microscope that can project to large screens will also be purchased for library and school educational STEM programs.
Microscopes are an important tool for STEM education and can be difficult to access for many people, including public and homeschooled students. Each microscope kit will contain materials for people to create and keep five unique slides of their own to study under the microscope. The new microscope kits are now available to check out or place on hold at the library.
“The Alan Green Memorial Foundation has been instrumental in helping support new programs and services over the years. The microscope lending program is another service they have helped fund in addition to our homebound delivery service and STEM Robotics classes.” said Michael Carlson, the Gilpin County Public Library Director.
