The Gilpin County School Interact Club sponsored a penny war and coin drive to raise funds for Ukrainian and other refugees around the world. They raised over $1600 by encouraging elementary and middle school and high school classes to compete for a root beer float party.
The seventh graders shared a toast for winning the penny war by beating the ninth graders by $12. The middle school and high school altogether raised $721.25. Meanwhile in the elementary the fifth graders celebrated their win. Their whole class raised over $200. The competition was steep in the elementary school. Three other classes raised over $100, and for their charitable acts were also awarded root beer floats. The total elementary earnings were $965.38.
The whole school benefited by learning about an important cause in the world, and compassionately sharing with other people in need.
