Katelyne O’Sullivan has been attending Gilpin County School since she was in preschool. She has fond memories from the thanksgiving feast in preschool and the ice cream socials. She also enjoyed making ice cream for science class when she was in first grade. In high school, Katelyne has cherished the relationships and friendships she has made. She also enjoys the atmosphere that takes place during big school events. She states, “I am comfortable here” in regards to her school.
Katelyne has been an avid member of numerous extracurriculars during high school. She was a part of the cheerleading team, the high school band, the theater department and the Interact Club. Katelyne’s favorite classes were band and English. She always looked forward to participating in them. When asked which staff member influenced Katelyne on her journey, she was unable to choose just one, saying that “they have each touched my life in a different way to help shape me into the person I am becoming.”
While Katelyne will miss the routine and familiarity that she has found at Gilpin County, she will move on to many new great things. Katelyne plans on attending Fort Lewis College in Durango Colorado, where she will major in elementary education. “I have always been passionate about helping people. That’s why I want to teach, I want to touch the lives of others like my teachers have done so for me,” Katelyne says. As of right now, she has received one scholarship directly from her school for her GPA.
Katelyne advises future students to “find your people and stick with them.” She believes that the bonds formed between students are impactful and significant. Congratulations Katelyne on making it through your senior year, excellent job!
