Emily Pleier, Gilpin County. The high school wrestling tournament at Sheridan High School on Sunday, December 22, 2019, had many larger schools and a high level of competition. With schools much larger than ours, the boys still walked away placing in both of their weight classes. Freshman, William Siegrist, places fifth in heavy weights. William had a match against Christoph Kennemer. William was tied in points at two each, when he pinned his opponent in the second period. William got his first win of his high school career.

Sophomore, Kamron Brewer, placed fourth in his weight class of 126. Kamron pinning his first opponents in three back to back matches against Brayden Johnson from Manitou Springs, Colton Brown from Platte Canyon, Conner Eldridge from James Irwin High School. All three wins came in under a minute, demonstrating Kameron’s dominate wrestling.

Overall, the boys worked hard. Kameron is now 8-5 on the season and William is 1-10. After the Holiday break they will be back in practice preparing for their next tournament in Colorado Springs where we look forward to the return of injured senior Mike Wenholz. Mike is coming off an injured MCL that has kept him sidelined through December. Mike’s powerhouse style wrestling will surely be exciting to watch again as he makes a final push to the State Competition this February.
