They just keep winning: One of the cornerstones of this year’s team, Faith Ramsey led all scorers against Bishop Machebeuf.[/caption]
Since the Gilpin Eagles Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team’s big win against Union Colony on February 6, they’ve reeled off three more victories.
First, on February 9, they dominated Lyons by a score of 58-21. Next, on the road, they handed North Park a 44-29 defeat on February 11. And most recently, they bested a respectable Bishop Machebeuf team 46-33 on February 13.
The girls’ record is now 11-7 and 6-3 in league play. With one game remaining in the season, they face undefeated Peyton on February 16.
Head Coach Katura Atherton summarized the team’s victory against Bishop Machebeuf: “Faith Ramsey led our team by scoring 14 points, and shooting 4-for-5 on her free throws. Avery Ramsey scored 13 points, Elise Vincent scored 10 points, and Kailee Starkey scored 9 points. What really changed the energy and outcome of the game, however, was our ball pressure and defense. We did a great job tonight pressuring in the backcourt and forcing the other team to turn the ball over.”
The Lady Eagles will play in the district playoff games on Friday, February 23, in the afternoon and Saturday, February 24, in the morning at Dakota Ridge High School (specific times still TBA). The Eagles are currently ranked #25 in the Colorado 2A rankings. The top 32 teams will advance to the Regional Tournament March 1-2.
