Gilpin families go fishing with GCPR

On Sunday, June 25, the Gilpin County Parks and Recreation (GCPR) hosted its annual Free Family Fishing Clinic at the William C. Russell Park and Pond in Central City from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The sun was shining, rain storms were nowhere near, and blue skies covered the sky. Families practiced the leave-no-trace principle as part of their education. Youth poles were provided, making it easy for families to participate. Donuts, drinks, fun prizes, and yard games were also part of the free family fishing clinic.

For some brain power, anglers could enjoy grilled hot dogs and chips. Participants who were successful in catching fish received a prize ranging from sweets to a fishing rod. The pond, filled with countless trout, provided an educational and fun event!

William C. Russell Park and Pond is located on King Flats Road in Central City.
