Brianna Crawford, Gilpin County. For the sixth year, Gilpin County Elementary School has celebrated Valentine’s day with an ice cream social, hosted by the PTA.

Preschool through 5th grade participated by bringing in toppings and enjoying the sweet treat. Students allergic to dairy even got to have fun with some dairy-free coconut or almond milk ice cream.
A variety of toppings were brought in, chocolate syrup being a fan favorite. All extra toppings are donated to the food bank.
It takes twelve gallons of ice cream to feed the 250 people, with the adults joining in the fun. Both parents and teachers get some ice cream of their own.
Throughout the day, toppings are added to the table making a huge collection by the end of the day. There are sprinkles, marshmallows, strawberries and whip cream plus many more. Even some odd toppings show up, like candy eyes and pumpkin spice whip cream.
