Gilpin County Sheriff’s Report August

On 8/1/19 at approximately 12:40 p.m., a deputy arrested a party in the 5000 block of Highway 119 in Black Hawk for warrants.

On 8/2/19 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to a report of a cold hit and run accident. The accident occurred on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, in the 100 block of Main Street in Central City. The deputy later filed a report.

On 8/2/19 at approximately 3:35 p.m., a deputy arrested someone for warrants in unincorporated Gilpin County. The suspect was also found to be in possession of an illegal controlled substance.

On 8/3/19 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a dog bite complaint on Clear Creek Street in Black Hawk. A case report was later filed.

On 8/3/19 at approximately 2:30 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to Missouri Gulch Road in unincorporated Gilpin County on a report of a drug violation. The deputy later filed a case report.

On 8/4/19 a deputy stopped a vehicle for a couple of traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle was intoxicated and was later arrested. The driver refused testing and was booked into jail. 

On 8/5/19, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Central City. The driver was uncooperative and was arrested for DUI.

On 8/5/19 deputies responded to an address off Highway 72, on the report of a bear in the house. Upon arrival, deputies observed a large brown bear trapped in part of the house. Deputies were able to free the bear and used less lethal ammunition in order to deter the bear from attacking.

On 8/7/19 at approximately 6:06 p.m., a deputy responded to the Century Casino parking garage on the report of a drug violation. A report was generated to document the incident. 

On 8/8/19 deputies responded to a cold assault and theft on Tolland Road. The case is active and still under investigation. 

On 8/8/19 at approximately 9:15 p.m., a deputy took a report of a party driving a vehicle he was not authorized to use. The deputy completed a report and later applied for an arrest warrant for the suspect in the case.

On 8/9/19 a deputy contacted a vehicle on Hughesville Road. A male party in the vehicle was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and heroin. A case report was completed.

On 8/9/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. The driver was arrested for driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender and violation of a protection order.

On 8/10/19 at approximately 5:16 p.m., a deputy responded to a report of suspicious activity at a casino in Central City. When the deputy arrived, he observed a party on the roof of a pedestrian bridge entering a hotel room. The deputy responded to the hotel room and found four parties inside. Three of the parties had been previously trespassed from the property and were served summons to appear in court on trespassing charges. The fourth party was issued a trespass warning by the casino and released.

On 8/11/19 a deputy in the Gilpin County Jail discovered an inmate had violated a protection order from the jail. The inmate was charged with a new crime of Violation of Protection Order and processed at the jail.

On 8/12/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the Grand Z Casino parking garage. The driver was issued a summons for driving on a revoked license.

On 8/13/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was issued a summons for driving while license revoked for an alcohol offense.

On 8/14/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Central City. The passenger had an active warrant and was arrested. The driver was issued a summons for several traffic violations. A report was later completed.

On 8/15/19 at approximately 10:06 a.m., a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle on the Central City Parkway. The driver failed to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, and eluded law enforcement. A case report was completed.

On 8/16/19 a deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft from a vehicle in Central City. A report was taken, a suspect was identified and a warrant was later filed for the suspect’s arrest. 

On 8/16/19 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a deputy was patrolling an area of National Forest with a Forest Service law enforcement officer. The deputy and officer contacted a group determined to be residing in the national forest against the rules designating National Forest use. The group was given a verbal warning by the Forest Service officer and adequate time to leave the area.

On 8/17/19 a deputy took a report of an ATV crash.  A report was made. 

On 8/17/19 a deputy responded to a motorcycle crash on Rollins Pass. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital. A report was made.

On 8/18/19 a deputy took a report from a resident who had found a bullet hole in the garage. 

On 8/19/19 deputies and Colorado Division of Gaming investigators responded to a residence in Central City on the report of an assault in progress. One party was later arrested for assault and another party was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

On 8/19/19 at approximately 10:27 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a report of a disturbance located on Gregory Street in Central City. After an investigation, a party was arrested. 

On 8/20/19 at approximately 4:25 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a reported burglary on Apex Valley Road, Black Hawk, in unincorporated Gilpin County. A case report was later filed.

On 8/21/19 at approximately 10:28 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle. It was later learned the driver`s license was under restraint for an unpaid ticket. The deputy issued the driver a penalty assessment and Proof of Service form. The driver`s license was confiscated to be returned to the DMV.

On 8/22/19 deputies responded to an armed robbery at the Z Stop Gas Station. The case is active and still under investigation. 

On 8/22/19 at approximately 7:53 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a theft that occurred at a casino in Central City. The deputy spoke with the victim of the theft and took a report. The casino staff was able to identify the suspect and the deputy contacted the suspect to have the property returned. The property was later returned to the victim who declined to pursue charges.

On 8/23/19 a deputy contacted a party on Lawrence Street, Central City, who had an active warrant for their arrest. The party was arrested for the warrant and a report was later completed.

On 8/24/19 a deputy was traveling eastbound on Highway 46 when the deputy’s vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver. The male driver was later arrested for DUI for both alcohol and drugs.

On 8/24/19 at approximately 11:42 p.m., a deputy checked on the welfare of a party sleeping in a vehicle parked in the Z-Stop Gas Station. The party was found to have a warrant and was arrested.

On 8/25/19 a deputy responded to a residence in Rollinsville to assist with a civil issue. A report was completed. 

On 8/25/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in a driveway off Highway 119. Upon the vehicle stopping, a driver exited the vehicle and ran into the woods on foot. A K-9 was requested from Jefferson County Sheriff`s Office. Upon searching the area, the party was unable to be located, but was identified. An arrest warrant will be completed.

On 8/26/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 119 at Apex Valley Road. The driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, driving while under the influence of a drug, driving while license under restraint and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 8/26/19 at approximately 11:47 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Gap Road. Two male parties associated with the traffic stop were later placed under arrest. One for drug possession related charges and the second for outstanding felony arrest warrants. 

On 8/28/19 at approximately 12:05 p.m., deputies located a stolen vehicle out of Nederland, in the area of the 800 Block of Gilpin Road, unincorporated Gilpin County. A case report was completed. 

On 8/29/19 at approximately 5:05 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a call of a major injury at the intersection of Old Stagecoach Trail and Highway 119 in unincorporated Gilpin County. A case report was filed.

On 8/30/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. The driver was issued a penalty assessment for speeding and two passengers were arrested for outstanding warrants.

On 8/30/19 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Nevada Street. The driver was arrested for driving while under the influence of a drug and possession of methamphetamine.

On 8/31/19 at approximately 6:22 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to Jankowski Drive, Black Hawk, on the report of a suspicious event. Items were collected at the location, and later booked into evidence for destruction.
